Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe, met his Malian counterpart, Abdoulaye Diop, on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, during an official working visit to Mali’s capital.
In a post on X, Nduhungirehe said the two ministers discussed ways to deepen cooperation in international forums and address peace and security challenges affecting their respective regions and Africa as a whole.
They also explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations and work together on issues of common interest, particularly efforts to promote peace and stability.
During the visit, Nduhungirehe also met Mali’s Minister of National Reconciliation, Lieutenant General Ismaël Wagué. Their discussions focused on promoting unity and reconciliation among the people of Mali.
Rwanda has gained experience in reconciliation efforts following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Through various initiatives and institutions, the country has worked to rebuild trust, strengthen social cohesion and bring communities together.
For Mali, where insecurity and conflict remain major challenges, reconciliation and national unity are important parts of efforts to achieve lasting peace.
Relations between Rwanda and Mali have grown over the years. Mali opened its embassy in Rwanda in February 2017, creating more opportunities for diplomatic engagement and cooperation.
The two countries signed agreements in several sectors in 2023. In 2024, they signed 19 additional agreements aimed at supporting inclusive development and expanding cooperation.
The latest meetings reflect continued efforts by Kigali and Bamako to build on those ties and strengthen their partnership in security, reconciliation and development.
