The reserves reached $57.3482 billion, up by approximately $133.7 million from $57.2145 billion at the end of August. This represents a monthly increase of about 0.23 percent.
The latest figure marks another record level for Egypt’s reserves and brings them closer to the $58 billion threshold. The increase also extends a sustained rise in the country’s reserve position during 2026.
Reserves Maintain Upward Trend
Egypt’s net international reserves have recorded steady increases in recent months. In August, reserves rose by $920.6 million, reaching $57.2145 billion from $56.2939 billion at the end of July, according to CBE data.
The reserves had previously stood at $55.0723 billion at the end of June, compared with $53.1342 billion at the end of May and $53.0092 billion at the end of April.
Compared with September 2025, Egypt’s reserves have increased by about $7.8 billion, or roughly 15.8 percent, highlighting the significant improvement in the country’s external reserve position over the past year.
Foreign Currency and Gold Holdings
The September data also show that Egypt’s reserve assets include substantial foreign-currency and gold holdings.
Foreign-currency holdings stood at approximately $39.29 billion at the end of September, compared with $33.65 billion a year earlier. Gold reserves reached about $17.46 billion, up from $15.84 billion in September 2025.
Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), an international reserve asset created by the International Monetary Fund, stood at about $602 million, compared with $44 million a year earlier.
Stronger External Position
International reserves provide countries with a financial buffer that can help meet external payment obligations, support imports and strengthen foreign-exchange liquidity.
Egypt has also recorded stronger foreign-currency inflows. The CBE reported that remittances from Egyptians working abroad reached a record $47.3 billion during the 2025/2026 financial year, an increase of 29.6 percent year on year.
Egypt’s main sources of foreign currency include remittances, export revenues and Suez Canal receipts, alongside other external inflows.
The latest reserve figures reinforce the upward trend recorded throughout 2026, as Egypt continues efforts to strengthen its foreign-exchange position and maintain greater resilience against external economic pressures.
